Links open in the Mac app

A fix for link cards in the Mac app, which had not opened their pages since the app shell was built.

Fixed

  • Links open again in the Mac app: clicking a link card's title or its play button, on the board or inside a column, now opens the page in your browser. It had silently done nothing since the app shell was built.

Search, picture editing and one-click editing

Search across every board, edit pictures without touching the original, and edit any text with a single click. The title and note bars are now one compact row each.

Added

  • Search the whole workspace from the magnifier in the top bar or ⌘F: boards and cards, each with its board path, plus the last eight boards you opened. Picking a hit opens the board and centres the card.
  • Crop, rotate and flip pictures from their bar. The original image is kept, so every edit can be undone or changed later.
  • Titles can stand vertically with a quarter turn to the left or right.

Changed

  • Notes, titles and to-do rows open for editing on a single click, with the caret where you clicked. A double-click is no longer needed.
  • To-do lists end in a faint "To-do" line; click it to add the next item.
  • Dragging a tool off the palette shows a small chip with the tool's icon and name.
  • The title bar folds alignment, fill, text colour and formatting into menus, and the note bar follows the same one-row layout.
  • A title's Bold, Italic, Underline and list buttons always style the whole title; ⌘B, ⌘I and ⌘U inside the editor still style only the selection.
  • Paste Style onto a title now carries bold, italic and underline along with size, fill, colour and alignment.
  • Two-finger scroll always pans and pinch always zooms. ⌘+scroll no longer zooms.

Fixed

  • After switching apps or using a ⌘ shortcut, scrolling could stay stuck on zooming until ⌘ was pressed again.

Folding columns and import in Settings

Columns fold away, the Milanote import lives in Settings, and new cards land near the middle of the view.

Added

  • Columns fold to their header from the chevron; hover the name to see the rename pencil.

Changed

  • The Milanote import moved from the top bar into an Import section of the Settings panel, between Toolbar and Backup.
  • Clicking a tool adds the card near the centre of the view, offset a little each time so repeated clicks do not stack.
  • The Image and File tools add an empty card to drop a file onto instead of opening a file picker; the picker is still on the empty card.
  • A card's style bar shows only while that card is the sole selection.

Snap guides, rich titles and style pasting

Cards line up while dragging, titles gain rich text and a colour of their own, and a card's look can be copied to others of the same kind.

Added

  • Snap guides: while dragging, cards snap to the edges and centres of the cards around them. Hold ⌘ to drag freely.
  • Copy Style and Paste Style in the right-click menu, between cards of the same kind (titles, notes, shapes, lines and board tiles).
  • Titles are rich text, with bold, italic, underline and lists, and a text colour of their own next to the fill.

Fixed

  • Outlined shapes can be grabbed anywhere along a comfortable band around their border, not only on the hairline itself.

Drawing, files and group resizing

Draw freehand on the canvas, keep any file as a card, and resize several cards at once.

Added

  • Draw tool: sketch on the canvas in colour and width, then save the strokes as a drawing card that scales like a picture. Return, a double-click or "Edit drawing" reopens it.
  • File cards for anything that is not a picture. PDFs preview inline, text files show their first lines, and every file opens in its own app on the Mac.
  • Shift+click or ⌘+click adds a card to the selection or removes it.
  • Dragging one selected card's handle resizes the other selected cards by the same amount. Pictures keep their proportions.
  • A short notice under the top bar explains when something could not be added, such as a folder.

Initial app release

The first build of Boardify for Mac, with the same app running in Safari and Chrome. Everything stays on your machine: boards, settings and images are plain files in the app's folder, or the browser's own storage on the web.

Added

  • Infinite canvas with notes, titles, to-dos, images, links, boards, columns, frames, shapes and lines. One Shape tool opens a picker of shapes and a line.
  • Boards inside boards, with breadcrumbs in the top bar and Back and Forward between boards.
  • Columns hold cards in order; drag any card in or out, or onto a board tile to move it there.
  • Rich-text notes with size and tint; titles with size, fill, alignment and a height you can set by hand.
  • Link cards with a title, description and image fetched on this machine, never through a third party.
  • Marquee selection, drag and resize with the handles, duplicate, a right-click menu, and copy and paste across boards.
  • Undo and redo for every edit.
  • Board tiles with a colour bar, toggled from the palette icon on the tile.
  • Settings panel: canvas colour and dot grid, toolbar on any edge, icons-only palette, and tool order by dragging the tools along the palette.
  • One-click ZIP backup of every board and image, and restore from a backup.
  • Milanote import from the account's Markdown export, or from a full JSON capture of the account for boards, columns, images and links with their positions.
  • The macOS app remembers its window size and position, and the Mac's swipe gesture goes back and forward between boards.

Requires macOS 12 or later. Not yet notarised: first launch is right-click → Open.
