The browser version, which does need a server, will be a subscription kept cheaper than most notes apps.

Why one payment

I paid monthly for a notes app for years. Then I built the one I wanted.

Boardify started as a way out of a subscription I could not get out of. Here is the short version, and why it ends with a single payment for the Mac app.

The years before
Paying every month for an app that barely moved

For years I paid a monthly fee for a notes app that ran on my own Mac and held my own words and pictures. The bill came like clockwork. Real improvements did not.
The trap
A local app, with a subscription as the only way in

There was no other way to pay. Cancel, and the boards I had made on my own machine were locked away. Renting an app that lives on your own computer never sat right with me.
The build
So I made the app I had been waiting for

Boardify is the app I use every day for my own work: the same idea, plus the improvements I had wished for all those years. I build what I actually need, then keep improving it so it is a great app for other people too.

Is $9.99 really the whole price?

Yes, for the Mac app, and while Boardify is in beta it is free. Once it leaves beta you pay $9.99 once and it is yours, including every feature it has today and every feature added later. There is no subscription behind it and nothing locked until you pay more. The browser version is a separate, optional subscription.

So is there a subscription or not?

Only for the browser version, because it runs on servers that cost money every month. It will be cheaper than most notes apps, and it is entirely optional. The Mac app stays a one-time purchase, with all current and future features included.
